Abstract

The deprivation of access to adequate housing by a significant portion of the Brazilian and world population assumes a central role in the debate on citizenship, sustainability, inequality, and poverty. The dimensioning and characterization of this problem are essential for policies to guarantee the right to housing/city to be achieved and put into practice. However, the multidimensionality of housing needs, associated with the limitations of existing data, imposes numerous challenges for measuring the problem in an updated and detailed way. The present project aims to advance the development of a methodology for the multidimensional representation of housing needs on a detailed scale (intra-municipal), inside and outside precarious settlements. Therefore, alternative data to the Brazilian Census will be explored, especially the integration between data from the Federal Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico) and local surveys of precarious settlements, so that the different dimensions of housing needs can be addressed. Among the dimensions, inequalities in accessibility to work, health and education opportunities will be represented, which will also require the computation of accessibility indicators.
