Abstract

The development of a measurement instrument and evaluation of its measurement properties need to follow adequate methods in relation to reliability, validity and responsiveness so that the evaluation of the patient is more accurate and decreases the chance of errors. However, although there is a guideline developed by Gagnier et al. (2021) for reporting studies on measurement properties, there is no manual to guide researchers in reporting their studies and using this guideline. This is also relevant for Brazil, where the translation of the guideline by Gagnier et al. (2021) and its newly manual to report studies on the measurement properties of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) can help Brazilian researchers to report this type of study. Thus, this project is divided in two studies. The study 1 has the objective of developing a manual for guideline by Gagnier et al. (2021) for studies reporting measurement properties of PROMs. The study 2 has the objective of translating this guideline and its newly manual into Brazilian Portuguese. For the study 1, we will conduct a search in the literature (Medline, EMBASE and CINAHL) to find examples of good and poor reporting, that can be used as examples in the manual. Each item from the reporting guideline developed by Gagnier et al. (2021) will be written as a self-contained section, in which one or more examples of good and poor reporting will be included with an explanation about reporting the item. For the study 2, the translation of the reporting guideline and the newly developed manual will follow the four steps by Beaton et al. (2000): direct translation, direct translation synthesis, back translation, and submission and appraisal of all written reports by developers/committee. (AU)
