Abstract

Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB), defined as changes in regularity, volume, frequency, or duration of menstrual flow, is a relatively common complaint in women, especially during menacme, with a significant impact on quality of life. It can be treated using drug options or surgical treatments. The evaluation of clinical complaints or results obtained with treatment is done in several ways, however, in our country, there are no questionnaires that assess the clinical complaint related to its repercussions on the quality of life. In the world literature, the Pictorial Blood Assessment Chart (PBAC) questionnaire is able to quantify uterine blood loss according to the number and filling of the pads used per menstrual cycle and the questionnaire Menstrual Bleeding Questionnaire (MBQ) is a self-administered, relatively quick, and simple tool, capable of assessing the quality of life of women with SUA. Objective: To translate and culturally validate the Menstrual Bleeding Questionnaire (MBQ) for the Portuguese language of Brazil. Subjects and Methods: Case-control study with women with SUA (case group) and without symptoms of SUA (control group), to be performed at the Menorrhagia, Surgical Gynecology and Family Planning outpatient clinics at the Hospital da Mulher "Prof. Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti" CAISM / UNICAMP. Validation will follow the protocol recommended in the "Guidelines for reporting reliability and agreement studies (GRRAS) ", in which the questionnaire will be translated into Brazilian Portuguese by a translator sworn and its translation will be adapted through the opinion of gynecologists specialized in abnormal uterine bleeding. It will then be applied to 5-10 patients to assess whether there is any failure to understand the questions and how to respond. After translation and back-translation, to correct flaws, the questionnaire will be applied to 100 women with SUA (case group) and 100 women in the control group (with normal uterine bleeding in regularity, volume, frequency, and duration). Women who agreed to participate in the study answer the MBQ and PBAC questionnaires and a form on sociodemographic data. Pregnant women, women with behavioral disorders, who do not have cognitive conditions for understanding the questionnaire and/or cannot read/write will be excluded. Some women (from the case group), via a drawing, will be summoned by telephone to answer the questionnaire again. Data analysis: Continuous variables will be described as mean and standard deviation or median, minimum and maximum value. For binomial variables, the chi-square test will be used and for continuous variables, Student's t-test. For internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha will be calculated and the correlation coefficient, for test-retest the intraclass correlation coefficient will be used. Responsiveness will be analyzed by the paired t-test or Wilcoxon test, depending on the sample distribution. The data will be tabulated in Microsoft Excel using a spreadsheet and then analyzed using the Intercooled Stata 13.0 program. (AU)
