Abstract

In Baixada Fluminense, a region that encompasses part of the metropolitan periphery of Rio de Janeiro, there has been a wide incidence of new real estate developments destined for industrial logistics and slabs for commercialization. This patrimonial expansion is accompanied by political articulations between private agents and the State spheres, giving rise to a real estate-financial complex. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between this alliance between capital and the State and the process of spatial restructuring produced in the Baixada Fluminense and its respective concentration on the Presidente Dutra (BR-116) and Washington Luís (BR-040) highways. It is necessary, therefore, to identify the contradictions and developments of these new strategies of capital in the reproduction of the metropolitan space, since its enterprises multiply and provoke transformations in the urban form and in the social practices, requalifying the meanings of the metropolitan expansion. For this, we resort to the mapping of the enterprises and the real estate-financial agents involved, as well as the identification of their cash flows and the evolution of their capitals.
