Abstract

The present thesis project is based on a comparative study between Brazilian and American foreign policy, seeking to understand how neonationalism manifests itself in the foreign policy of the two nations, as well as its origins, distinctions and similarities. The growth in nationalist movements around the world together with the election of political figures who use the same rhetoric make it more than necessary to carry out studies that contribute to a greater understanding of the degree of influence of the contemporary phenomenon of neonationalism. The central argument would be that, in the case of American foreign policy, neonationalism operated as a political instrument of intentional popular mobilization, guaranteeing high political legitimacy to the executive power vis-à-vis its supporters. In the Brazilian case, neonationalism manifests itself as a more radicalized version of the ideological Americanism current of foreign policy, being strongly dependent on the presence of neonationalism in Trump's foreign policy. The established objectives are of an exploratory nature. To this end, the research will be of a qualitative nature divided into three fronts: the bibliographic and documentary survey, the mapping of groups of political influence and the comparative analysis. The research will make use of secondary data, being published analyzes or data already verified, and primary data, present in interviews, speeches and documents of official external guidelines of both governments to be analyzed.
