Abstract

Brazil is the third largest producer of fruit in the world and the largest producer of red guava in relation to other producing countries. In 2021, the national production of 552,393 tons of guava was responsible for generating R$ 973,137,000.00 in the country. During the processing of this fruit, a large amount of waste is generated and, as it is an environmental liability, these wastes are responsible for increasing production costs. One of the methods that can be used to convert this liability into an asset for industries is the use of these residues for the production of biogas from anaerobic biological processes. The production of biogas from residues from national fruit crops may prove to be more efficient after the heat and acid pre-treatment where sugars will be released. With this, the present project intends to evaluate the efficiency of the thermal pre-treatment with the addition of acetic acid in residues of the guava processing aiming at the release of sugars and thus increase the generation of biogas in anaerobic batch reactors.
