Abstract Ultrasonic tests has been widely applied for the evaluation of concrete elements since they do not generate any damage in the inspected structure. In a simple analysis, the fast detection of non-homogeneities of the structure is one of the achievements of the ultrasound., The analysis of ultrasound results has gained complexity with the support of mathematical tools and computational data crossing allowing the generation of tomographic images of internal sections of concrete. Several techniques are presented in the actual research for concrete tomography, with an emphasis on the algebraic ones. Nevertheless, a widely used and consolidated technique in medical tomography, Backprojection, is barely explored for concrete image reconstruction. Therefore, our goal in this work is to compare the Backprojection technique, which will be implemented in the TUSom software, with already recognized algebraic techniques. Initially, the tomography will be generated from the time of flight of the ultrasonic wave, with later modification for the variation of the wave amplitude. The quality of the generated images will be verified from the reconstruction of concrete prism sections with numerically simulated and experimental measurements. As a result, we expect to indicate the efficiency of Backprojection in a comparative form. Also, we expect to propose combined solutions between Backprojection and other algebraic reconstruction techniques. | |
