Abstract

Since the beginning of the history of the chemical industry, aromatic compounds have played a crucial role in the generation of chemical products with high added-value derived from petroleum. In view of environmental and economic concerns, biomass has emerged as a potential feedstock to reduce dependence on fossil fuels in the production of aromatics. However, almost all of the studies carried out for this purpose aimed at the preparation of simpler aromatic compounds, especially intermediates in the synthesis of polymers. In this project, we will explore processes for the preparation of new aromatic compounds that are useful for the synthesis of natural products and drugs. To this end, enabling technologies will be strategically employed to assess the potential of each tool to provide the desired transformations, as well as possible impacts on the selectivity of the reactions under study: Diels-Alder reaction of furan derivatives and other compounds from renewable sources.
