Abstract

In this project, we will study ways to organize, in packages, the items used to perform various surgeries in hospitals. Items are hospital materials such as gloves, suture threads, and drugs and medication. Items are organized into surgical kits that must be assembled and finalized by the responsible department before each surgical procedure. After performing the operations, unused items must be returned to the inventory for future use. However, determining ways to improve the efficiency of assembling kits and returning items to stock is a problem faced by hospitals. Thus, in this project, we will apply mathematical programming techniques to determine kits composed of packages that can be used in different types of surgical procedures. For the construction of packages, we considered flexibility in the choice of items, trying to minimize costs. For the project's development, an integer optimization model of the literature will be adapted to study the design of surgical kits, considering the data provided by Santa Casa da Cidade de São Carlos. This project is part of the project "Abordagens Computacionais para a otimização da montagem de kits cirúrgicos" in collaboration with researchers from HU-UFSCar.
