Abstract

This project analyses the urban infrastructure development in the municipality of São José dos Campos during the first years of the "sanatorial phase" (1935-1954), when the city was one of the most important centres in tuberculosis treatment in Brazil, having received many immigrants from the whole country seeking health care. The goal is to understand how, and which urban infrastructure projects were implemented by local government during the period from 1935 to 1941, aiming to guarantee basic conditions for phthisic treatment in the city. The topic will be approached through framing analysis in local newspapers articles.
