Abstract

In the present project we intend to explore the reactivity of formamide (HCONH2) as an alternative way of CO2 incorporation for the production of renewable polymers, investigating different catalyzed reactions, including metallo-, photo- and bio-catalysis. Initially, we intend to study the production of formamide using CO2 as a C1 carbon source, using hydrogen (H2) as a reducing agent and ammonia for the amidation step in a reaction employing metallic catalysis. In the second part of the work, the aim is to produce a new series of renewable polymers from monomers derived from natural esters and formamide. Considering the production of new polymers, their properties and applications will be explored. Finally, we aim to produce a new polymer decorated with a carboxamide group for application as an organic nitrogen fertilizer, serving as a source of nitrogen and carbon.
