Abstract

We want to generate entangled states for applications in quantum information processing, in a system with modal scalability. Entanglement serves to two main goals: allowing the sharing of information in a safe way, by quantum cryptography between two players (Alice and Bob), and for the development of information processing in a way that will surpass the limits of the current classical computers. We will use an optical parametric amplifier using a rubidium vapor cell, working at room temperature, for the generation of a pair of entangled fields. Next, we will engineer the frequency spectra of the pump laser, leading to the entanglement of multiple modes of the field, eventually leading to the generation of a cluster state: a structure with capacity for quantum information processing, using a number of optical modes that can be arbitrarily expanded in a mesh of entangled odes. The student will focus on the pump beam engineering, using distinct systems for laser control. He will begin from a Ti:sapphire laser, that will be phase ad frequency locked to the reference laser, allowing for the controled superposition of distinct pump modes, that will be collinearly injected into the rubidium cell, used as the gain medium.
