Abstract For the fields of quantum and nonlinear optics, the process of four wave mixing provides noiseless amplification of electromagnetic fields. The process will keep the overall purity of the quantum state of the fields, thus providing a reliable source of squeezed and entangled state of the field in distinct ranges of frequency, leading to applications in quantum information.Among the research goals of our laboratory, we are investigating the for wave mixing process in atomic media, focusing in rubidium atoms in hot vapor cells, and on microfabricated waveguides on silicon nitride chips. While the atomic media leads to a huge nonlinearity, providing high gains and high noise compression levels, the waveguides can be immediately integrated on multipurpose optical circuits, and operate at the wavelengths of optical telecommunication networks. Therefore, they can be used in compact structures by lithographic techniques, such as those used in electronic devices. The students will join the research groups and help on the implementation of the experiments, focusing on the certification of the measurement techniques for the optical fields while developing his skills. The proposal will broaden his knowledge on the research practices. | |
