Abstract The first decades of the 21st century have been marked by a broad process of financialization ofreal estate production in the city of São Paulo. The concept of real estate-financial metabolism isproposed by Ferrara (2018) to address, in a dialectical way, the socio-ecological transformations induced by such dynamics. If nature was once used to serve merely as a basis for the industrial economy, nowadays it serves both as a substrate and as a differential for real estate products, valuing them. The concepts of formal subsumption of nature and real subsumption of nature have become increasingly relevant in the international political ecology literature to explain the metabolic transformations driven by the metamorphoses of nature in the transition fromindustrial to financial capitalism. Based on the concepts of formal and real subsumption ofnature, the postdoctoral project aims to discuss the contemporary logics of space and natureproduction imposed by real estate-financial metabolism in the city of São Paulo. The hypothesis is that before the contemporary real estate-finance metabolic dynamics, it is possible to observe complex conjugations between the formal and the real subsumption of nature in the city of São Paulo. The method involves a systematic review of the literature and case studies of real estatedevelopments that are representative of the reality that we aim to apprehend. With the research, we expect to contribute to contemporary debates about the confluences between thecapitalization of nature, land ownership and real estate under the financial domains. The forms ofdissemination and evaluation involve participation in national and international congresses, aswell as the publication of articles in journals. | |
