Abstract

Switched systems are composed of a set of subsystems and a rule (or function) to orchestrate the switching among them. In our context, this rule is the unique control variable and must be designed in order to ensure stability and a suitable performance for the closed-loop system. Besides their interesting theoretical properties, they represent the mathematical model of several real systems in many different areas. In this research project, our goal is to deal with two main classes of switched nonlinear systems. The first one is composed of discrete-time nonlinear systems, where the goal is to treat state feedback stabilisation problems by means of a min-type Lyapunov function. The second class of systems, referred as continuous-time switched theta-periodic system, is composed of dynamic matrices that are periodic with respect to a parameter theta, which can be either time or state-dependent. Now, the main goal is to design a switching function to ensure asymptotic tracking of a pre-specified trajectory and a guaranteed performance level. Robustness with respect to model uncertainty and switching frequency limitation are important topics to be tackled, since they make the control design problem more realistic. Examples with practical appealing (as, for instance, power converters and permanent magnet synchronous machines control design) will be solved by means of numerical simulation. (AU)
