Abstract

In this internship, we will examine how the documentary potential of field recording has been employed by contemporary Brazilian sound artists in order to produce socially and politically engaged sonic artworks. Four field recordists have been selected as our case studies: Marco Scarassatti, Paulo Dantas, Raquel Stolf and Thelmo Cristovam. An approach based on recent Sound Studies theory will be adopted in order to analyse each of these artists' sonic practices. In these analysis, we will discuss how ethical concerns impact their artistic practice and verify to which extent and by which means these artists manage to balance aesthetic and documentary interests. The results will be included in the fifth chapter of our doctoral thesis. (AU)
