Abstract

Geriatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a notorious public health problem in Brazil and worldwide, since it has a worse prognosis when compared to other age groups. In addition, the increasing life expectancy of the population exacerbates this problem, as it leads to an increase in the incidence of these traumas. However, there is still a lack of studies in this population group. Despite this, there is still a lack of studies in this population group. This project aims to evaluate the epidemiology of patients over 65 years of age who are victims of TBI in a referral service and to assess the importance of this variable through an analysis of the prevalence of unfavorable outcomes. This is a cross-sectional survey with data collection from patients with TBI victims of this age group treated at the Emergency Unit of Clinics Hospital of Ribeirão Preto (HCRP) since 1997. Data will be collected from the Surveillance database of HCRP epidemiology. Sociodemographic and clinical variables will be analyzed for epidemiological assessment of patients, quantifying the most common prevalences and patterns through statistical analysis.
