Abstract

We seek to understand the extent to which the presence of the soil affects the topology optimization of the structure, in soil-structure interaction problems, as well as to derive optimization methods that correctly account for the influence of soil flexibility and constitutive properties. The proposed models will consider energy dissipation from the structure to the soil and its effect on the achievable optimized topology of the structure, as well as provide important insight into other multiphysics optimization problems.
