Abstract

Adolescence is a phase of biopsychosocial transformations, determined bygenetic and environmental factors, common stage for developing psychological disordersand psychiatric.A recent option for effective contraception in adolescents is the implant.etonogestrel releaser (Implanon®), which leads to anovulation through the releasecontinuation of progestogen. The effects of hormonal contraceptives on mood are controversial,mainly for drugs of more recent use. It is knowleg that they can promote improvement inmental health in disorders such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, but datareveal that certain women seem to be susceptible to the negative effects on themood, with reports of increased depression and suicide.In this study we intend to evaluate scores of depression, anxiety and stressin adolescents before insertion of the etonogestrel subdermal implant and after 3months of use.This is a quasi-experimental trial including patients treated at theHC-FMB Adolescent Contraception Outpatient Clinic, 50 will be includedadolescents between 12 and 19 years of age who have been at least 3 months without the use ofhormonal contraceptive. Pregnant patients, history of breast cancer will be excluded.breast, lactating, first year postpartum or with communication difficulties.The data will be collected through a face-to-face interview on the insertion date andafter the first 3 months of use, we will use the Depression, Anxiety andStress for Adolescents (EDAE-A).The data will be compared in a bivariate and paired way before and after theimplant insertion.We hope to identify the action of the progestogen etonogestrel on the symptoms ofmood in adolescents, age group with the highest incidence of psychiatric problemssuch as anxiety, depression and suicide.
