Abstract

This study aims to describe and relate the influence of mother and baby variables concerning mother-baby relation and infantile development, during the first year of life. For the mothers, the styles and parenting practices, age, school level, anxiety, stress and depression indicators will be considered; for the babies, prematurity, low birthweight, and teenager mothers. A total of 200 babies, up to 12 months of age, and their caretakers, who attend the extension project named "Follow up of development of babies : evaluation and orientation to parents", which is located at the Center of Applied Psychology, in one public university, where data will be collected. An initial interview will identify the demographic variables of the babies and the mothers. For the evaluation of the style and parenting practices, it will be applied the Inventory of Parenting Styles for Mothers of Babies. In order to evaluate anxiety, it will be applied the Trace State Anxiety Inventory; and for stress symptoms, the Inventory of Stress Symptoms; for depression, the Depression Beck Inventory will be applied. For evaluation of the development of babies, it will be applied the Operationalized Portage Inventory and for the analyses of the mother-baby relations it will be applied the Protocol of Observation of the Interaction Mother-Baby, 0 - 6 months. During the first meeting, the parents will provide answers for the initial interview and the development of the baby will be evaluated by the Operationalized Portage Inventory. At the end of the evaluation, the second one will be established and this procedure will continue until the first year of the baby. Independent from the age/month of the baby, it will be applied the Inventory of Parental Styles of Mothers and Babies. On the third or four month, the mother-baby relation will be filmed, on a previously determined time. On the sixth, ninth or tenth month of the baby, the mothers will be invited to answer the instruments for evaluation of stress, anxiety and depression. The data obtained in the initial Interview will be correlated to the Operationalized Portage Inventory and to the outcomes of the Inventory of Parental Styles of Mothers and Babies. Data obtained from the Trace State Anxiety Inventory, from the Inventory of Stress Symptoms, and Depression Beck inventory will be related to the outcomes of the Operationalized Portage Inventory and Inventory of Parental Styles of Mothers and Babies. The outcomes from Inventory of Parental Styles of Mothers and Babies 0 - 6, will be analyzed, considering control babies and pre-term babies. (AU)
