Abstract

Disorderly urban expansion and human interference in natural resources threaten the balance of terrestrial ecosystems. The pollution of surface and underground waters, as well as extreme weather events are consequences of the unsustainable exploitation of the Earth's natural resources. Studies indicate that pollution and deforestation in the so-called Critical Zones are the main factors that contribute to the development of socio-environmental problems, such as extreme drought events, food supply crisis and hydroelectricity crisis. The existence, quantity and quality of water are essential factors for the preservation of life and for the sustainable development of human activities. For this reason, critical management of water resources is not only necessary, but essential. This research aims to contribute to the management and sustainable exploitation of underground water resources associated with the State of São Paulo. The integration of geological data and geophysical modeling through electrical (ER and RC) and electromagnetic (TDEM and GPR) methods will be used to map and characterize shallow and deep aquifers in areas vulnerable to extreme climate change and overexploitation of water resources. The geophysical and geological data will be integrated to provide a hydrogeological model on a local scale, and thus may contribute to guiding society regarding the rational and sustainable use of groundwater resources.
