Abstract

This project aims to design the informational architecture of a digital database for the Dictionary of the History of Cartography of São Paulo, main product of the research project Cartographia Paulista Antiga (FAPESP file number 2021/09464-6). This is the second stage of this project, carried out within the scope of the documentation process of the cartographic collection Affonso d'Escragnolle Taunay, of the Museu Paulista at the University of São Paulo. To this end, we seek to highlight, firstly, the experience of the History of Cartography Project team - currently directed by Matthew H. Edney, Osher Professor in the History of Cartography at the University of Southern Maine - in the long process of developing their encyclopedic homonymous work dedicated to the history of maps. We then proceed to point out how the experience and best practices accumulated in the last decades by Professor Edney and his team, can be profitably used in our process of defining the methodology for organizing a mapmaker's digital database that will feed the dictionary's entries. Finally, we indicate the expected results, and which products we will deliver as indicators of success of this research project stage at the United States. (AU)
