Abstract

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a public health issue and is present in the school routine of different communities. Considering that NSSI has been gaining space and interest in the academic community and the need to systematize knowledge about the subject, this research aims to understand the perspective of students who practice NSSI, in the light of German Critical Psychology. This theoretical foundation emphasizes the subject's perspective and his agency in preventing the phenomenon at school. Dialectical-Historical Materialism, Qualitative Epistemology and Participation Action Research will be used as methodological foundations. This study will be carried out with 30 students from Elementary School II, and the sources of information will be the field diaries produced by the research psychologist, interviews with students who have already injured themselves and the transcription of answers to questions contained in a booklet on NSSI that seeks to understand the experience of those who self-harm. The information obtained will be analyzed and synthesized in the light of the constructive-interpretative methodology, to defend the thesis that the subject's perspective, accessed in the spaces of reflection and action, favors the process of becoming aware of the NSSI experience.
