Abstract

Racism is constituted by systematic discriminatory practices, conscious or not, which are premised on the hierarchization of human beings, based on the political conceptualization of race. The presence of racism in the social structure is revealed in interpersonal relationships in different spaces, including the university environment, contributing to losses in the schooling process, the mental health of young black people and their retention in higher education. Self-efficacy is considered one of the essential emotional pillars for buffering stress and adopting satisfactory coping measures for university students. Therefore, the present study seeks to analyze the relationship between the daily discrimination experienced and the self-efficacy of black students in the university context. 100 students from Brazilian public universities will participate in the research, of which 45% will be white, 30% brown, 20% black and 5% indigenous, aged 18 or over, who will answer an online form in Google format forms, composed of a Free and Informed Consent Form, questions relating to the characterization of the participants, the Brazil Criteria, the Everyday Discrimination Scale, the self-efficacy scale in higher education and two essay questions to explore the experiences of these students. The data will be analyzed quantitatively, using the JASP program, and qualitatively, using the atlas.ti software, in which the data will be coded and separated into families (thematic categories). It is hoped that the data will contribute to a better understanding of the effects of racism on black students to support necessary actions for them to remain in higher education.
