Abstract

Carbon nitrides have emerged as a promising visible-light active robust semiconductor due to their high performance for redox reaction, especially for energy conversion. However, despite significant research into the chemical and technological applications of carbon nitrides, there is still a lack of detailed understanding of their structure. Obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the structure of these materials is crucial for developing rational strategies aimed at enhancing their properties as photocatalytic features. Therefore, the objective of this internship project is to conduct an in-depth structural study of highly crystalline carbon nitrides based on PHI/PTI in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Bettina Lotsch at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research. The results of this study will be used to develop new strategies towards increasing the catalytic efficiency of these materials, especially, for the water splitting reaction. The insights gained from this project will not only enhance our understanding of the fundamental properties of carbon nitrides but also contribute to the development of more efficient and sustainable energy technologies.
