Abstract The relationship between predators and their prey is one of the central questions of Ecology. Exactlyby the selective pressure exerted by predators, many defensive strategies against predationevolved. Anurans stand out in this scenario for being immersed in dense and complextrophic networks, and consequently are exposed extensively to the pressures ofpredators. Over the past few years, some reviews have attempted to organize knowledge toabout the defenses of frogs, but there is still inconsistency in the literature and new informationrelevant have been published in recent years. Therefore, we aim to review the bibliographyand propose an updated classification of frogs' defensive strategies. In thisstudy, we intend to approach not only morphological and behavioral strategies (as donein most of the above cases), but also incorporating ecological strategies, alsovery important for the prey and still little explored in the current literature. We hopethis study serves as a basis for advances in the understanding of the relationships between anurans and theirpredators in the future. | |
