Abstract

It was recently shown that the D=5 holomorphic Chern-Simons formalism acts as a bridge between the Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond formalism and the pure spinor formalism for the superstring. The D=5 holomorphic Chern-Simons formalism has SU(5) invariance, and the pure spinor formalism can be understood as a covariantization of the holomorphic Chern-Simons formalism where the pure spinors parameterize the ways to break the SO(10) group to the SU(5) subgroup. The student will try to use the holomorphic Chern-Simons formalism to prove the equivalence of the Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond and pure spinor formalisms of the superstring.
