Abstract

The quality of life (QL) in Crohn's disease (CD) associated with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) becomes an important field to be investigated since the manifestations of both diseases do not only affect the physique but also directly influence the psychosocial factor. These negative experiences significantly affect personal and professional activities, financial stability, and emotional well-being. As a result, these patients often experience depression, frustration, fear, and anxiety, resulting in an increase in the number of consultations and treatments and the need for psychological and, eventually, psychiatric follow-up for better emotional support. Ferric carboxymaltose (FC) aims to restore iron stores in peripheral blood and prevent recurrent anemia, reducing these patients' symptoms. The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) assesses QL in patients with CD. Through 32 questions divided into digestive, systemic symptoms, emotional and social function, it is possible to detect changes in the patient's state of systemic and intestinal integrity, in addition to associating changes in results with changes in disease activity. Given the above, the present study aims to evaluate the impact of the quality of life through the application of the IBDQ, in patients with ADF associated with CD, before and after treatment with intravenous ferric carboxymaltose to elucidate its role in the disease.
