Abstract

Introduction: Self-care is defined as a set of self-dependent actions for the prevention and/or maintenance of a lifestyle that imply health promotion and delay the illness process. In the hospital environment, the nursing service is necessary to promote self-care, in view of an evaluative role in the ability to preserve and develop the individual's self-care. Objective: to identify the capacity for self-care of people hospitalized in a clinical sector. Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive observational study, carried out at the University Hospital, selecting participants who meet the proposed eligibility criteria and followed by approval of the research protocol by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos. Data will be collected through interviews, which will begin after filling out the Informed Consent Form and guided by the instruments: Form for characterization of participants and Revised Scale for Self-Care Agency Assessment (ASAS-R). Data will be analyzed considering descriptive statistics and exploratory statistical analyzes of the study variables.
