Abstract

The aim of this study is to perform an anthropometric analysis of the lip surface and scar tissue in children with and without cleft lip and palate. The sample will be composed of children with and without cleft lip and palate, between 3 and 36 months of age. The children will be divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (G1) - children with cleft lip and palate; and Group 2 (G2) - children without cleft lip and palate. The acquisition of 3D images of the facial surface will be done using the Vectra H2 portable stereophotogrammetry equipment. The participants will be evaluated in the following periods, Phase 1 (F1), before the primary plastic surgery and Phase 2 (F2) 1 day after the primary plastic surgery. Quantitative analysis of the three-dimensional morphology of the nasolabial region will be performed by marking the points and reference on the soft tissues of the upper lip of both groups. The scar tissue formed as a result of the cheiloplasty will be evaluated using equidistant points around the fibrous tissue. For data analysis the Shapiro-Wilk normality test will be applied. Paired t-tests will be applied for comparisons between phases in children with cleft lip and palate, while independent t-tests will be used for comparisons between groups. Data will be presented as mean and standard deviation. Nonparametric tests may be applied if necessary. A significance level of 5% will be adopted for differences to be considered statistically significant.
