Abstract

Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat. Stress levels can contribute to increased visceral adiposity, along with the development of metabolic syndrome and increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. NPY, often associated with central control of hunger and orexigenic signaling, plays an important role in the stress response and peripheral adipogenic and angiogenic stimulation. Bioinformatics analyzes associate the peripheral levels of this receptor with responses that alter energy homeostasis. Studies have demonstrated the role of peripheral inhibition of NPYRs in reducing abdominal obesity in an experimental model, however, its potential to affect responses induced by physical exercise has not been addressed. It is known that the intensity modulation associated with changes in caloric expenditure is also proportional to changes in catecholamine levels, however, it is not known whether intervention in these responses is detrimental to performance or if it could enhance weight loss induced by physical exercise. . We believe that understanding this interface between hormetic responses to exercise and peripheral NPY signaling is important in improving current treatments for the management of obesity.
