Abstract

In 1969, the Secretary of Public Security of Sao Paulo State, gathered with the Army, has created the Operação Bandeirante (Oban), as a response to social mobilizations in opposition to the civil-military dictatorship installed in 1964, especially what was conventionally called "Urban Guerrilla". The clandestine structure monitored, harassed and kidnapped people with any connection to movements opposing the regime. This structure was based in the area of the 36th Police Station, at Rua Tutoia, 921, in São Paulo. In 1970, it was made official as an Army agency and renamed as "Doi-Codi", expanding São Paulo's model operations all over Brazil. Sao Paulo´s "head office" became the largest center of imprisonment, interrogation, torture, death and disappearance in the country, directly affecting at least 7 thousand people, most of them, tortured. Despite their importance, only four systematized studies contributed to knowledge of the body that produced persistent practices in Brazilian public security policies. The objective of this project is to investigate the documentation produced by Doi-Codi present in the Deops collection and correlated ones produced in Secretariats of the State of São Paulo - identified and to be identified - with the purpose of contributing to research projects in archeology that are in progress, to meet the recommendations from the National Truth Commission, as well as the creation of a Virtual Doi-Codi Memorial.
