Abstract

There is a change to integrate actions and conflicts from local and regional levels to the national level. Understanding how processes and power and in different levels and how they can influence on the sustainability and stakeholders participation is a key step to develop more participative processes and to allow the small groups to influence in the process. The recognition of the unequal power relationships, between value-chain stakeholders and those vulnerable and marginalized groups, may require special support to enhance fisherfolks' associations and capacitating early career small-scale fisheries leaders and researchers to participate in decision-making processes at a national level. Supported by a range of inter- and transdisciplinary activities facilitated by the OCEANS PACT team, dozens of early career researchers, fishers' leaders and related organizations will be mobilized to exchange knowledge and synergize eight on-going transdisciplinary research, education, extension and policy initiatives in the city of Brasilia and throughout the entire coast of São Paulo state. We will boost a multi-year thematic foci research-action campaigns linking the arrangements for conflict resolution in the São Paulo State coast to the national and global agendas. This PD researcher will aim transformation of conflicts between small-scale fisheries and the blue economy/growth; scenarios and prospects of climate change and the launching of the International Decade of Ocean Science to Sustainable Development; and in the final year finally resonating with the upcoming International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture.
