Abstract

In La Plus Secrète Mémoire des Hommes, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr's book, the creation issue is at stake for African citizens and its diaspora, to create or not, to remain in Africa or to go to Europe. With those book Characters, possible allegories of contemporary identity issues, we can think about curators/creators that operate in the same way, that is, in the ambivalences and renounces possible, knowing that curatorial practices in the African continent and its diaspora evolved to curator-artist practices during the XXIst century. Therefore, some curators think not only about selecting but also about making and other curatorial practices. This project aims to watch and analyze four initiatives that work with curatorial and artistic training in the continent, as well as with the notions of healing and reparation of art after conflicts, CCA Lagos and its Asiko Art School, founded by Bisi Silva; RAW, in Dakar, Senegal, founded by Koyo Kouoh; Le 18, in Marrakech, Morocco, founded by Laila Hadi; and Inema Arts Center, in Kigali, Rwanda, founded by the brothers Emmanuel Nkuranga and Innocent Nkurunziza. The four, in different ways, are concerned with curatorial practices and working with them in their communities, creating residencies, schools, libraries, and sites that allow continuous knowledge production on curatorship all through the continent.
