Abstract

The purpose of this study will be to evaluate the effect of cheiloplasty on maxillary children with cleft lip and palate. The sample will be composed of children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate, from 3 to 60 months, operated with the same surgical technique, and who present complete documentation. The children will be divided into 2 groups: Group 1: 30 children. Cheiloplasty (Millard technique) at 3 months of age and single-stage palatoplasty (von Langenbeck) at 12 months. Group 2: 30 children: Cheiloplasty (Millard technique) + anterior palatoplasty (Hans Pichler technique) at 3 months Hans Pichler technique) at 3 months of life; and posterior palatoplasty (Sommerlad technique) at 12 months. Children will be evaluated before cheiloplasty surgery and at 5 years of age. The measurements of the dimensions of the dental arches will be taken directly on three-dimensional images of dental models, scanned with a commercial system, and the measurements will be performed using the 3D stereophotogrammetry system software. Surface linear surface linear measurements will be obtained. The three-dimensional images of the models will be evaluated by applying the Atack index. Two previously trained and calibrated examiners will perform the analyses. For intra-examiner and inter-examiner reproducibility analysis. The Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) will be used to analyze intra- and inter-examiner reproducibility. At intragroup analysis, data that present normal distribution will be analyzed by the paired If necessary, non-parametric tests will be selected. For intergroup analysis, the independent t-test will be applied for comparison between when the data present a normal distribution, if necessary, non-parametric tests will be selected. A significance level of 5% will be adopted so that the differences are considered statistically significant.
