Abstract

Corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (DeLong & Wolcott) (Hemiptera:Cicadellidae) is considered one of the main insect pests in corn plants, transmitting various maize stunting pathogen reducing the yield potential of this crop. The study aims to quantify how the spray rate and period of application may interfere on spray deposits, control of the leafhopper, and in the yield parameters. The field study will be conducted in a randomized block design in a 3 × 2 + 1 factorial scheme, with 3 spray rates (53, 115 and 173 L ha-1) in 2 application periods (10h and 18h) plus 1 control treatment with 4 repetitions. The spray deposits will be quantified by the Brilliant Blue dye. The study will be carried out in the first season (November) and repeated in the second season (February). The parameters assessed will be: spray deposition on plants and artificial targets inside the corn whorl, uniformity of spray deposits, leafhopper control, disease incidence, disease index and yield parameters. The data will be performed for analysis of variance and when significant the means compared by using a Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. The uniformity of the spray deposits will be measured by the variation coefficient.
