Abstract

Idiopathic esophageal achalasia is an inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, characterized by aperistalsis of the body of the esophagus and failure of the lower esophageal sphincter to respond to swallowing, with consequent dysphagia, which can lead to malnutrition. Although it is found practically in any country, with a variable incidence of 1 to 3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants/year, in Brazil it is little known due to the presence of esophagopathy secondary to Chagas disease, endemic in many states, which presents signs and symptoms similar, which makes it difficult to estimate the exact incidence in our country. In advanced chagasic esophageal achalasia, esophagectomy has been a well-standardized surgical procedure for many years, but it is not free of complications. This led to the recommendation, in this type of disease of chagasic origin, the technique of esophageal mucosectomy with preservation of the muscular layer, which has shown in several studies a low rate of complications. For this reason, the idea of using this surgical procedure in advanced idiopathic achalasia of the esophagus and with recurrence of symptoms after previous surgery was born. The objective of this study is to evaluate the results of cervical esophagogastric anastomosis, with the circular mechanical suture technique in patients submitted to esophageal mucosectomy with preservation of the esophageal muscular layer for the surgical treatment of recurrent idiopathic esophageal achalasia in 05 patients.
