Abstract

Polyurethanes are polymeric materials that have a wide range of applications in various fields due to their attractive and diverse properties. The main production of these polymers occurs through the polyaddition reaction between diisocyanates and polyols. Polyols are important monomers that, in addition to their applications in the polyurethane industry, are also used, for example, as antifreezes, plasticizing agents, and in the polyester industry. Polyols are mainly derived from petroleum, which is an extremely problematic point due to the numerous environmental and economic disadvantages of using such a source. On the other hand, biomass derivatives have shown to be promising substitutes for petroleum derivatives in the synthesis of such high-value-added compounds. Thus, this work proposes the synthesis of known and new high-value-added polyols from lignocellulosic biomass platforms, namely D-fructose, ³-valerolactone, and ´-valerolactone, using environmentally friendly conditions.
