Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the chewing strength (tribocorrosion) and shear strength of pit and fissure sealants after incorporation of fibroin nanoparticles. The Conseal F and Fluorshield sealants will be used, unfilled and filled, respectively. This way, fibroin nanoparticles from the silkworm Bombyx mori will be added to both sealants. Thus, the groups will be divided into: Group I - Conseal F, Group II - Conseal F associated with fibroin nanoparticles, Group III - Fluorshield and Group IV Fluorshield associated with fibroin nanoparticles. The nanoparticles will be made from water miscible chemical reagents, going through the process of degumming, dissolution, dialysis, precipitation/purification and freeze-drying. They will then be weighed and added to the sealants. Subsequently, a tribological test will be performed on the specimens simulating 1 year of brushing (266 brushing cycles - 1 Hz frequency - 4 hours duration) to evaluate the wear generated, followed by a shear strength test (speed 0.5 mm/min with 50 kgf load) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The data will be analyzed according to the most appropriate statistical test.
