Abstract

Introduction: Smoking is a treatable and preventable epidemic disease that can be aggravated by the financial status of individuals. The prevalence of tobacco consumption is unbalanced among social classes, with a greater impact on the most disadvantaged classes. In addition, the characteristics of smoking in other populations other genders, or rural areas, or other minority groups are scarce in the literature. Thus, the ignorance of the effects of smoking on respiratory health can impact these in different ways in these populations, is added to the marginalization of social measures, such as education and low monitoring in health care, which can potentiate access inequalities and hinder control and smoking cessation actions. Objective: Identify socioeconomic status, sex, gender, and chronic respiratory symptoms and correlate with smoking exposure of a population in the Botucatu city, São Paulo, Brazil area. Methods: All individuals over 18 years of age, from the municipality of Botucatu, will be invited to participate in the project. After accepting the Free and Informed Consent Form, they will be classified according to socioeconomic, demographic, gender and gender characteristics, race, and exposure to tobacco and its derivatives. For all who have passive or active exposure to tobacco derivatives, screening and treatment of respiratory disease diagnoses and treatments for smoking cessation will be offered. For the diagnosis of respiratory diseases, patients with previous, active or passive smoking exposure will be offered the evaluation of pulmonary function by pre- and post-bronchodilator spirometry, the evaluation of peripheral muscle strength by upper limbs dynamometry and inspiratory muscle strength, and maximum expiratory by manovacuometry. Individuals over 40 years of age with smoking exposure e 30 pack-years, will be offered the screening of lung cancer by low-dose chest tomography. Body mass index will be measured by electrical bioimpedance. Expected Results: Identify and evaluate vulnerable groups that have difficulty accessing respiratory health care and implement specific strategies for the control of smoking and its respiratory diseases for these vulnerable groups. Ensure equity of access to respiratory health for the entire population at risk from smoking.
