Abstract

The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is the region of the atmosphere closest to the ground, where all exchanges of energy, gases and particles between the earth's surface elements and the atmosphere take place. These exchanges are possible due to the highly turbulent flow present in this part of the atmosphere. In this study, ABL data obtained from a numerical simulation will be analyzed in order to characterize the atmospheric turbulence. The variables to be analyzed include the vertical profiles of mean and standard deviation of air velocity and temperature, in addition to turbulent fluxes of momentum and heat. These physical parameters govern the turbulent transport and all exchanges between the atmosphere and the planet's surface, making their study highly relevant for environmental and meteorological processes.
