Abstract

The Anaphase Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in the ubiquitin-dependent proteolysis of key cell cycle proteins. The spatiotemporal degradation of mitotic cyclins and securins ensures the transition from G2/M phase, and exit from the cell division program, respectively. The identification of the genes that encode the APC/C subunits in Arabidopsis thaliana suggests that the complex has other functions, in addition to controlling cell division program during plant development, such as: embryogenesis, gametogenesis, growth regulation, hormonal signaling and symbiotic interactions. Although research on APC/C has advanced in recent years, very little is known about the specific function of each component during plant development. One of these members, SAMBA gene, proved to be a highly promising candidate in Arabidopsis related to increased yield, through the production of larger leaves, roots and seeds. In this project we intend to characterize tomato plants cv. Micro-Tom stably overexpressing the SAMBA gene and characterize its effect during plant development. (AU)
