Abstract

Introduction: Incontinence is a potential issue among hospitalized pediatric patients. Regardless of being previously incontinent, hospitalization can increase the likelihood of incontinence, as patients are often bedridden and restricted to bed rest, leading to increased diaper usage, a significant risk factor for the development of Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD). IAD, when not prevented, identified, and treated, negatively impacts patient outcomes, as it can prolong hospital stays, slow down treatment results, and increase the risk of infections. However, the scientific literature is still scarce regarding research on IAD in pediatric patients. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence and factors associated with Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD) among patients admitted to pediatric units in a high-complexity hospital. Method: This is an observational, cross-sectional, exploratory study with a quantitative approach, involving data collection from electronic patient records, to be conducted at the Clinical Hospital of the Botucatu Medical School.
