Abstract

The objective of this clinical, controlled, randomized trial with a split-mouth model will be to evaluate the behavior of the peri-implant parameters of zirconia implants compared to titanium implants. This study will consist of 20 participants who will be submitted the installation of 2 implants in the healed ridge and 2 provisional prostheses. These participants will receive both types of implants: 1) 2-piece zirconia implants and 2) titanium implants. Analysis of the insertion torque will be performed at the time of implant placement. Implants that reach a torque greater than or equal to 35Ncm during installation will receive a provisional prosthesis made using the additive manufacturing technique on a 3D printer. The other implants will receive a cover screw, will be buried and the participant will be excluded from the research. Periapical radiographs will be performed immediately, 3, 6 and 12 months after implant placement to assess the marginal bone level. Clinical analysis will be performed at 3, 6 and 12 months after implant placement, and the following parameters will be evaluated: dichotomous Visible Plaque Index (VPI); Dichotomous marginal bleeding index (MSI); Bleeding on probing (SS); Probing depth (PS); Clinical Entry Level (NCI) and USPSH form. For the volumetric analyses, a digital scan will be performed before, in the immediate postoperative period, 6 and 12 months after the surgical procedure, and from the digital files obtained, soft tissue thickness measurements will be made at the level of the marginal mucosa, 1mm , 2mm, 4mm and 6mm apically the same. Photographic analyzes in order to evaluate soft tissue aesthetics by Pink Esthetic Score (PES) and Modified PES will be performed before, 3, 6 and 12 months after the surgical procedure. Evaluation between implant groups will be done by paired t-test or Wilcoxon test depending on data distribution. For the longitudinal evaluation within each group of implants, the Anova test for repeated samples and the Tukey or Friedman test will be applied according to the data distribution. For dichotomous data, the chi-square test will be applied. The significance level adopted will be 5%.
