Abstract

The Pimentel Barbosa Indigenous Land is inhabited by the Xavantes, an ethnic group belonging to the macro-jê linguistic trunk. Already demarcated, it is located in northeastern of Mato Grosso.Even under the protection of the law, it is threatened by the expansion of activities such as mineral extraction, agriculture and cattle farming, and illegal fishing. Its delimitation has not been respected, as pointed out by leaders of the Ripá village, inserted in the TI Pimentel Barbosa, in interviews previously conducted. The company "Quero-quero" was identified by the Xavantes as the main invader of the TI limits, delimiting irregular occupation and use of the land. With this research proposal, the aim is to carry out a data survey to map the threatened area. With this, it is evaluated that a situational and geographical analysis will be possible, with discussions around the category "Territory", entering the agrarian discussion in the country.Based on the proposed case study, it will be possible to understand the conflicts established in the region, how they affect the Xavante people and the maintenance of their cosmology, and how maps can be a potential resource for understanding the space, documentation and, especially, for denouncing the actions taken by economic agents that are contrary to the interests of native peoples.
