Abstract

BACKGROUND: Recent research indicates that children with developmental delays participate less socially, either in activities involving parents and family members or in the community, directly impacting the quality of family interaction and social participation. Thus, those born preterm at biological risk are more likely to present delays. However, no studies were found that evaluated the participation in the domestic environment and the possible factors that impact them in the first year of life, motivating the execution of the present study. PURPOSES: To verify environmental facilitators and barriers in the participation of infants with biological risk in the first year of life. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-sectional observational study. Infants with biological risks between 3 and 12 months of age will participate in the study. Evaluations on participation in the home environment will be carried out with the instruments Measure of Participation and the Environment - Young Children (YC-PEM), the conditions of the environment of the house will be evaluated by the Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development - Infant Scale (AHEMD- IS) and the environmental part of the YC-PEM, socioeconomic classification, income, maternal schooling, and age of the infant in months. To verify the influence of environmental factors on participation, multiple linear regression analysis will be performed. For this analysis, the outcomes of participation at home (frequency and involvement) will be the dependent variables. For the predictor variables, the variables selected by a preliminary correlation analysis of the environmental domains will be considered.
