Optical characteristics of PMMA blocks polished with diamond-coated silicone tips immersed in organic solvents

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to characterize the surface and analyze the optical characteristics of a cross-linked PMMA block for manufacturing by the CAD/CAM system, polished with silicone tips coated with diamond and immersed in organic solvents (distilled water, absolute ethanol and methylethylketone). The study will analyze four factors: (1) cross-linked PMMA block for CAD/CAM manufacturing; (2) Surface Treatment: POG: Diamond Coated Silicone Tips - OptraGloss/Ivoclar; (3) Immersion in 03 organic solvents simulating food (I): distilled water (IA), absolute ethanol - Merck (IE) and methylketone - Sigma-Aldrich (IMEK); (4) analysis times at 4 levels (TB - after 24 h of surface treatment, stored under dry conditions at 37°C (baseline); T1 - after 24 h of immersion (IA, IE and IMEK) at 37°C and T2 - after 7 days of immersion (IA, IE and IMEK) at 37°C. They had accredited 2 response variables: (1) characterize the surface by means of surface roughness (Ra); (2) optical characteristics through color change (”E00 (color), ”L (brightness), ”C (chroma), ”H (hue ). The quantitative data obtained in each analysis will be presented to the normality test and later to the most appropriate statistical test, with a significance level of 5% of formed biofilm, comparing between the different proposed groups.
