Abstract

This internship period, foreseen in my research project, will be held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China, from October 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. My local supervisor will be Professor Jay Schutte of the Department of Sociology at the Zhejiang University. Prof. Schutte is an anthropologist with expertise in China, socialist societies, globalization and South-South relations. This internship seeks to consolidate my regional specialization through directed studies on the anthropology and history of China and to enable my dialogue with local researchers studying Mao Zedong and communist parties in Asia. These studies will be discussed fortnightly with Prof. Schutte, and they will focus on the relationship between socialism and nationalism in general, and on Mao's Marxist approach to Chinese nationalism in particular. In addition, the internship will expand my education on East Asia as a whole. (AU)
