Abstract

The main objective of this project is to develop the necessary hardware and software for conducting cardiorespiratory measurements using an oximeter, and integrate these functionalities into an existing device known as EpyBand, a bracelet designed for predicting epileptic seizures. Additionally, the aim is to investigate the feasibility of monitoring and potentially preventing Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). Comprehensive clinical tests will be conducted to assess the sensor's performance in relation to oxygenation and its effectiveness in detecting critical events associated with SUDEP. The project also encompasses the development of an integrated alert system within the EpyBand to detect low levels of oxygenation in real-time. Based on the results obtained, the project will consider the successful incorporation of this sensor into the EpyBand, enabling continuous monitoring and analysis of oxygenation during clinical events related to epilepsy. This represents a significant advancement for the device and has the potential to contribute to the prevention of SUDEP.As a secondary objective, the project aims to compare the performance of the EpyBand with a PPG sensor being developed concurrently in the laboratory. This analysis will provide valuable insights into the different health metrics being monitored and their potential benefits for patients with epilepsy. This complementary approach is intended to enhance the capabilities of the devices being developed in the laboratory.
