Abstract

The objective of this research project will be to molecularly characterize the species of Cryptosporidium spp. in domestic guinea pig farms. A total of 100 fecal samples from these animals will be collected in different municipalities in the northwest region of the state of São Paulo. Two aliquots will be obtained, the first of which will be carried out for microscopic analysis for the detection of parasite oocysts by the negative staining technique of Malachite Green and the second subjected to the extraction of genomic DNA of this protozoan with subsequent molecular characterization by Chain Reaction by Polymerase (PCR) for amplification of fragments of the ribosomal RNA 18S subunit gene. and sequencing the amplified fragments. Fisher's Exact Test will be performed to observe the relationship between positivity and negativity for the referred protozoan and the studied variables, and the Kappa correlation coefficient to analyze the concordance index between the results obtained in the diagnostic methods used.
